Responsive Web Design

responsive web design

Every WordPress website we build uses Responsive Web Design (RWD) principles. RWD is defined as:

“… an approach to web design aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing and interaction experience—easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling—across a wide range of devices (from desktop computer monitors to mobile phones).”

Why is Responsive Web Design Important?

Early in the process of replacing an existing website, we ask our customers to allow us to see their Google Analytics data. We encourage them to review the data with us. Many of them tell us it is the first time they’ve ever seen these numbers. Others say they haven’t seen them in months.

As a general rule, they are shocked to learn how much traffic their existing non-mobile friendly website is getting from mobile devices. If they hazard a guess as to how much mobile traffic they think they are receiving before we look at the numbers, it typically falls in the 30-50% range of the actual amount.

Make no mistake: mobile is huge. You are kidding yourself if you believe that your site doesn’t need to look great on all devices and in all browsers. It’s pretty much that simple.

Controlling the Cost of Responsive Web Design

The sites we build are basically custom one-off WordPress themes that are based upon Foundation Framework. Using a framework like Foundation allows us to deliver a site that delivers a pixel-perfect view of your design on all devices while keeping costs down by using standard CSS objects to speed development.
